The PG Checklist: What to Inspect Before You Book a Room in Delhi
Most PG decisions in Delhi are made in under fifteen minutes, usually during a rushed visit in admission week. A short, deliberate checklist prevents the problems that surface in month three.
Inspect the room, not the lobby
Open the taps and check water pressure and heating. Test the switches, the fan and the AC. Look at storage — a wardrobe and a study table you can actually work at matter more than a decorative reception area. Ask which floor the room is on and how much daylight it gets at noon.
Ask about food, power and housekeeping
Find out how many meals are included, the exact timings, and whether the menu rotates weekly. Confirm power backup covers fans, lights and Wi-Fi during outages. Check how often rooms and washrooms are cleaned, and who handles laundry.
Read the agreement before you pay
Clarify the security deposit amount and refund timeline, any lock-in period, notice period for leaving, guest and visiting-hours policy, and whether electricity is billed separately. A PG that answers all of this clearly in writing is usually the one worth choosing.
